On many drunken nights at Surry Hills we invariably stumble to a few local kebab shop favourites. We always walk past Komachi restaurant, home of the Ramen Challenge, but the lure of the kebab is strong…. mmmm kebab…
One lazy Sunday we were in the neighbourhood and slightly sober, so decided to stop by for a quick lunch. It’s a small place, with some tables outside and also on the 2nd floor. As we walk past the front there are pictures of famous challengers who have won – the challenge is to finish a ramen bowl the size of a baby’s paddling pool (ok maybe just the size of a small bucket) in 60 min. If you win you enter the ramen challenge hall of fame, get your picture added to the wall and get a $50 meal voucher. If you lose, you are ostracised from the ramen community for ever (and you pay $50). Of the 344 challengers, only 15 have succeeded.
We weren’t up for the challenge, so instead opted for a normal sized ramen and a bento box. I was craddling a hangover and the ramen was a really good cure.
